Doncaster slimmers shed lbs for cancer charity

HUNDREDS of big-hearted slimmers will be hoping to swap the pounds for cash in a weight-loss charity challenge.

Scores of Slimming World members throughout the borough have set themselves weight loss goals to achieve during a 12-week sponsored slimathon.

Groups all over the borough such as Askern, Adwick and Carcroft have completed their first week of the challenge which also saw more than 50 members in Bentley lose a combined weight of nearly ten stone.

Money from the slimathon will go to our Scan for Life appeal which is run in conjunction with Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust (DCDT) to raise £600,000 for a state-of-the-art cancer scanner.

Kim Coyne, team developer and consultant for Slimming World groups in Doncaster West, said members were even more determined to lose weight.

The 29-year-old, who herself has set a weighty task of losing 25lbs, said: “Our members are working so hard to achieve their weight loss. Having the Scan for Life appeal has given them that added incentive to reach their goals.

“Our members are loving it, we’re already looking at sponsorship of around £5,000 or £6,000. We’re looking for businesses in the area to help out too.”

The appeal’s total is well past the halfway mark and more than £500 was added to that cash pot from the Christmas carol concert at Doncaster Minster which we supported alongside DCDT.

People are also invited to a charity ball hosted by Doncaster Round Table on Friday, at Doncaster Racecourse from 7.30pm. Tickets are £37.50 which includes a four-course meal, live music and entertainment and an auction.

Scan for Life donations can be paid directly into the Co-operative Bank in St Sepulchre Gate. People can call in at DCDT’s shop in East Laith Gate or ring 01302 349177.

  1. This reminds us just how important it is to raise money for charity. Its comic relief time in the UK and its great to see all the celbrities putting their hands up and getting involved to raise money for people in need.
